About Us

Our staff includes four professional structural engineers with more than 50 cumulative years of experience. Our engineers are registered in the states of Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Louisiana, Texas, Kentucky, North Carolina, Mississippi, and Pennsylvania.

Our Founder

Lynn D. Blackburn Jr., P.E. founded Blackburn & Associates, Inc. in 1979, after previously being a partner in the firm Joseph, Spain Blackburn, Inc. He received his bachelor’ degree in civil engineering at Auburn University in 1964 and a master of science at Auburn University in 1966. While at Auburn, Lynn was a member of Chi Epsilon Engineering Honors Society as well as a member of Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honors Fraternity.


Over the course of his 45 plus year career, he designed multiple projects all over the nation. Some of his most notable projects include the RSA Tower in Montgomery, AL, The Martin Luther King Dormitory Tower for Alabama State University, Briarwood Presbyterian Church, in Birmingham, Alabama, Ralph B. Draughn Library Addition for Auburn University, Additions to Bryant Hall for the University of Alabama, Alabama State Acadome in Montgomery, Alabama, The VA Medical Center in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Christ Episcopal Church in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Autauga, Talladega, Limestone, Winston, and Monroe County Jails, Enterprise High School, Scottsboro High School, and Albertville High School just to name a few.


In 2010 Lynn sold his business to his daughter Joslyn Blackburn Daniels, P.E. and his two sons-in-law Jack W. Daniels, Jr. P.E., and R. Mark O’Barr, P.E.

Joslyn received her bachelor’s degree in civil engineering at Auburn University in 2002 and master of science degree in structural engineering at Auburn University in August 2005. While at Auburn, Joslyn was a member of Chi Epsilon Engineering Honors Society. Joslyn was published in May of 2007 in the American Society of Civil Engineers Practice Periodical on Structural Design and Construction. The articles were concerning two technical papers about Bridge Pile Bents during Flood Scour Events. This was part of Joslyn’s thesis work while still at Auburn.


Joslyn is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and is currently serving on the State of Alabama Board of the Structural Engineers Association of Alabama (SEAoAL).

Jack received his bachelor degree in civil engineering at Auburn University in 2002 and masters of science degree in structural engineering at Auburn University in May of 2005. While at Auburn, Jack was a member of Chi Epsilon Engineering Honors Society and a Student Government Association Engineering Senator. Then, in 2005, He joined Blackburn & Associates. Since that time, he has completed numerous important projects with varying structural systems for our firm. Currently, he is a member of the following organizations:


• National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE)
• The American Concrete Institute (ACI)
• Structural Engineers Association of Alabama (SEAoAL)
• American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)
• Serves on the Montgomery Auburn Club Board

Mark received his bachelor’s degree with highest honors in electrical engineering at Auburn University in 1987 and master of science degree at Auburn University in 1989. While at Auburn, Mark was a member of Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honors Fraternity, Sigma Pi Sigma Physics Honors Society, and Phi Kappa Phi Honors Society. Mark was also a member of the Pi Mu Epsilon Mathematics Honor Society.


In 1998, Mark returned to Auburn and acquired additional coursework in structural engineering. Since then, he has successfully completed numerous projects as the Engineer of Record encompassing a wide variety of different structural systems. Mark is currently certified by the Structural Engineering Certification Board and is a former president of the Structural Engineers Association of Alabama.
